Atlantic Innovation Fund

A program of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, the Atlantic Innovation Fund (AIF) was launched in 2001. The AIF helps Atlantic Canadians compete in a global knowledge-based economy through the development of new ideas, products, businesses and markets.

AIF funding is provided to selected eligible projects through a series of competitive funding rounds. Under the first five rounds, a total of 191 projects have been approved, committing $512.5 million in AIF funding towards projects valued at over $1 billion.

DALHOUSIE UNIVERSITY AGRICULTURAL CAMPUS

Dalhousie University Agricultureal Campus (DalAC) is an internationally respected teaching and research university. DalAC’s strengths in agriculture and related sciences come from long history of working with industry, government, academic and research institutions both nationally and internationally to carry out innovative research.

Areas of research emphasis at DalAC include:

•Bio-product development
•Organic agriculture
•Blueberries
•Agricultural biotechnology
•Animal nutrition
•Plant physiology

There are also several research chairs in many of these areas.

DalAC consistently scores high in faculty research intensity. In 2010, DalAC ranked #1 out of all 16 Atlantic Canadian universities.

Nova Scotia Community College – Truro Campus

NSCC-Truro, is one of NSCC’s 13 campuses in Nova Scotia. NSCC’s applied research focus is an extension of its mission to support the economic and social development of the province.

With over $20-million in applied research projects, NSCC is one of the largest applied research centres among community colleges in Canada.

Working in collaboration with industry partners, communities, researchers and faculty experts, NSCC brings resources, knowledge and skills needed to develop real solutions for real issues.

The Industry Liaison Office assists partners in the development of new technologies that have commercial applications.
