Health Care

Nova Scotia’s Health Insurance Programs are designed to provide eligible residents with coverage for medically required hospital, medical, dental and optometric services (with some restrictions).

The plan is available to Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada. Application for coverage can be made immediately upon arrival in Nova Scotia.

Hospitals

Two hospitals serve the residents of the Truro:::Colchester region.

The Colchester Regional Hospital
The Colchester Regional Hospital serves residents as the main acute care facility of Colchester East Hants Health Authority. Located in Truro, the 126-bed facility provides a wide range of inpatient, outpatient and satellite services.

Hospital Replacement Project

A new 124 bed facility will serve more than 73,000 residents of Colchester East Hants and will provide surgical, medical, mental health, intensive care, maternal child services, diagnostic and treatment services, emergency and ambulatory care services and much more including:

expanded urology services;

a new palliative care unit;

a range of ambulatory care services;

a helipad for rapid transport when seconds count;

enhanced privacy and infection control;

And much more

The Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital

The Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital is a community hospital located in the Village of Tatamagouche. In co-operation with neighbouring health care facilities they promote the provision of personalized and compassionate health services.

Family Physicians.

The Nova Scotia Department of Health provides a directory to help Nova Scotians find a family physician who is taking new patients. This online service is in addition to the Physician Information Line, 902-424-3047.
