Light Manufacturing

Truro:::Colchester is a strong player in manufacturing, hosting just under 10% of the Nova Scotia total manufacturing labour force. Sector strengths are animal food and dairy product manufacturing, wood product, plastic product and transportation equipment manufacturing.

Transportation/Distribution

Truro:::Colchester boasts a competitive advantage in the transportation and warehousing sector, claiming just under 8% of the NS total labour force.

Agri-tech

The agriculture bio-science sector is growing rapidly in Truro:::Colchester. This is due to our rich agriculture history, the commercialization of research at the Nova Scotia Agriculture College and the work of the Atlantic Bio-Venture centre.

The Atlantic BioVenture Centre (ABVC) was established in 2005 as a division of AgriTECH Park in Truro, Nova Scotia. AgriTECH Park is a wing of the Nova Scotia Agricultural College that supports the growth and development of promising new Bio-Science projects. The Atlantic BioVenture Centre works with both primary and processing sectors on Bio-Resource value-chain developments and technology transfer. Based on a Development Requiring Research Philosophy, the Centre is leading Atlantic agri-food and aqua-food producers towards the renewable "Bio-Based" economy.
