Expect More Future Nova Scotia Olympians

Efforts to develop sport and recreation in Nova Scotia have been ramped up with two recent announcements in Colchester County. Prime Minister Stephen Harper recently visited Truro, NS to announce federal funding for a new $50 million Civic Centre which is scheduled to open sometime in 2012. It will include a 3,200-seat event venue, an NHL-size ice pad, a three-lane walking and jogging track, an aquatic centre with an 8 lane competitive pool, a fitness and wellness centre, multipurpose rooms and community meeting spaces. This will provide Colchester County residents with a state of the facility that will serve to increase grassroots and high performance sport programming.

In addition, the Colchester Regional Development Agency (CoRDA) recently announced the launch of a new service that it will be provide called “Destination Colchester”. The objective of this new service is to attract new major events to the region including sporting events. These events will serve to increase the profile of certain sports in the region and will also help develop new sport programming.

CoRDA is very excited about these new announcements and looks forward to seeing sport and recreation grow in the region.

GO CANADA GO!
